Social Media Marketing and You – Crush It!

If you run any kind of profit-oriented business, you need to read this book:

Written by Gary Vaynerchuck, here are some of the major points I took away from this book:

1.) Follow your passion

These days you can turn any passion into a thriving business (aka “monetize”), given today’s social media marketing opportunities.

2.) Respect your DNA

You’ve gotta be YOU. Don’t be a poser or people will sniff you out – FAST. As Gary said in a recent tweet, “If

you’re doing good stuff you’re gonna explode, if you’re doing bad stuff you’ll be exposed”.

3.) Social Media Is the Great “Equalizer”.

The world has changed (and is still changing) in a big way: Big media outlets no longer hold a monopoly on the message. This means little guys like you have the ability to get your messages to millions using new social media tools.

4.) You Gotta Work Your Butt Off.

Gary says you’ll be “up until 3 AM each morning building your network of followers” and you’ll stare at your computer screen until your “eyes bleed”. Wha? You mean business isn’t two scantily-clad people holding hands running down the beach? Or a guy sporting an ascot living it up on his yacht in the Bahamas? Finally, somebody who tells the truth about making it in business: to crush it, you’ve gotta BUST it.

Gary also reveals tons of great social media tools that’ll save you time building your networks and your brand. One of these is Ping FM, a site which allows you to “mass tweet” or “mass post” to all your social networking sites in one fell swoop. I’ve grabbed ahold of Ping.fm like a madman lately. It’s a great time-saver.

I read Crush It! in one sitting. It’s now dog-eared, tattered, full of margin notes and certain pages glow in yellow. I DEVOURED IT! To me, it’s more of a “success resource” than a book. I reference it all the time.

My favorite quote? “The most underrated skill in business is telling stories”. How true.
