How To Improve Your Martial Arts Door Hangers
Door hangers can be a cheap and effective way of marketing – but only if you do it the right way. Here are six quick and simple tips to improve your results:
Tip #1: Big Bold Headline
Your headline is 90% of your impact. Readership studies have proven for years that people scan both printed literature as well as web pages. And the surprising thing is that TEXT catches attention more than graphics (more on that later). When a headline hooks a reader, that’s when they delve into the rest of the content.
This all means you should make your headlines big and bold and pack them with benefits. Your headline should be the most prominent part of your door hanger.
Tip #2: Half-Sheets of Paper or More
Since you’re not paying any extra to deliver a larger door hanger, I recommend using a half-sheet of paper. Again, you want to grab attention. The bigger that headline is on a piece of paper, the easier it is for somebody to see. And keep in mind, if somebody doesn’t see your flyer or headline, they’ll never read your flyer or headline.
Tip #3: Focus on Text
Don’t waste valuable page “real estate” by inserting cutesy graphics or large pictures. Focus on your selling message. Like I mentioned a minute ago, text grabs a reader’s attention faster than graphics.
Tip #4: Test Different Headlines and Body Copy
Sometimes one little “tweak” can make a huge difference. I’ve run campaigns where I changed one word and boosted my results by 17 times! Keep in mind that marketing is all about testing. This headline vs. that headline. This offer vs. that offer. This call to action vs that call to action. You get the idea. Test, test, test!
Tip #5: Track Your Results
Be sure to keep a tally of incoming calls. This is vitally important to your marketing efforts. Why? Because if you don’t know how a piece performed before, you can’t improve the results. What you want to do is find out which piece pulls the best and try to beat those results. If door hanger A pulls 15 leads one week, change the headline and see if you can beat those results the next time around. Keep doing this until you have a proven winner. In direct marketing, this is called “beating the control”.
Tip #6: Use Proven Headline Words
The best two words for your headlines are FREE and YOU (or YOURS). In fact, the word “free” is so powerful that an old-school copywriter from the 40′s said to his apprentice, “If you have the opportunity to use the word “free” and you don’t…you’re fired! Try to get “free” and “you” into your door hanger’s headline if you can.
Follow those tips and improve your results!
